Progressive Scan DVD Players

Posted on August 30, 2008
By tech blogger in Uncategorized

You’ve probably heard about progressive scan DVD players, but you may not know what exactly they are or why they seem to be the hot item that people want these days. To understand why this is the case, first you need to learn about the different technology that progressive scan DVD players provide. And then you’ll need to realize that at the moment, only those who have invested in HDTV or other high performance display screens or projectors will be able to take advantage of the difference.

To start with, let’s review the way that traditional motion pictures are created. In fact, the term ‘motion picture’ is rather misleading because no pictures actually move. Instead, still pictures, also called frames, are played in rapid succession so that the resulting display is changing so quickly and in such small amounts at a time that we perceive it as moving. You may have recreated this illusion in school or on your own by drawing stick figures or other pictures on a stack of paper, then flipped through the paper quickly. The figures looked like they were moving rather jerkily. But if you took the time to draw enough frames and move them quickly enough, you would see much smoother motion, like in cartoons.

Television is recorded in the same type of frames. Then it’s broken down to be transmitted in a signal. When the signal is received by your television, it is reassembled in sections, or stripes. These stripes are reassembled in two different sets, from top to bottom and left to right across your television screen. To explain this concept more clearly, imagine window blinds that are partly open. The actual blind pieces are one set of stripes and the space between the stripes represents the second half of stripes. In a TV transmission, the stripes of set one are laid in before the second set is laid in. This is called an interlaced display. Although it sounds like it would take some time, all of this happens in the fraction of a second – 60 of the fields or stripes are displayed per second.

DVD players and DVDs have used this same technology because of the fact that TVs displayed pictures this way. But with the advent of digital and high definition television projectors, display technology has changed, leading the way for DVD technology to change as well. These high performance TVs and projector screens receive and display signals in full progressive frames instead of stripes. And 60 full frames are displayed per second. Meaning even more detail can be included in the same amount of time, resulting in pictures with less flicker or picture distortions. Progressive scan DVD players work by sending DVD signals in the same progressive format.

However, progressive scan DVD players only make a difference if they have both the source material that can be scanned into progressive signals and the display screen that can receive progressive signals. Older DVDs were most likely not recorded with progressive signals. Newer ones will have the capability, though. But as mentioned before, you have to have a television that can receive progressive signals. HDTV televisions can, and so can CRT or LCD monitors.

If you have the right kind of television, a progressive scan DVD player, and a DVD that was produced in the last 5 years or so, you can test to see if you can tell an improvement. Just switch the DVD playing setup from progressive to normal as you watch the film. Look at the outline of things, and the details of the background elements. You may just experience home video with a clarity and sharpness like never before.

About Playstation Cheats and Appropriate Use

Posted on August 29, 2008
By tech blogger in Uncategorized

For most people cheat codes have a negative stigma; if you need to use the codes then there is something wrong with your ability to play a simple game. Although the losers can claim that they own the game and that they can do whatever they want with it. However, there are some appropriate uses for the cheat codes, even though those uses may be so wrong.

There are four basic kinds of cheat codes: devices, controllers, glitches, and Easter eggs. Devices are always considered cheat codes, as you bought the thing so you could cheat, so there is no question that you were going to cheat. Easter eggs (hidden codes) are at the other extreme; if you find one you’re actually supposed to exploit it at least once. Glitches are the ultimate gamer gray area; as glitches are random, exploiting is up to the person. Of course, if it happens a lot, then taking advantage of it is a bad thing. Controller cheats (using the controller to input a code) are not supposed to be used except in emergencies or for fun, and are otherwise bad mojo.

There is the obvious advantage of being able to finish games that have small…quirks. For example, if you accidentally sell off an item that is vital to solving a puzzle that you need to solve in order to continue the game, then it is nice to be able to put the item into your inventory in order to solve the problem. This solution also applies if you forget to buy an important item, find out that item is important and you can’t go back, and just about any other equipment issue. In other games, the ability to continue forward can depend on some bit of randomness, and you have problems moving forward. A cheat code can help you there, too.

Cheat codes can also allow you to explore the game in ways you couldn’t otherwise. For example, areas where the monsters are too tough or you can’t normally reach, using cheat codes are okay; at that point you’re just having fun, not doing anything serious. They can also be used to show off in front of friends, showing them things that make sense in no other situation. There is just a certain level of fun in showing your friends what a wrestler looks like in tutu, or being invulnerable as a normally weak character that has no business being in that part of the game.

Cheat codes may be something you should avoid using, but they can also be something that can lead to further fun, especially if you show your friends the codes. There can be a certain amusement in fighting off tanks with a high-powered slingshot. Although Playstation cheat codes were placed there for the designers to play with certain parameters, such as to see how things would change if those parameters would change, they can lead to a certain degree of scandal if it’s found out that you’re playing. Especially if no one’s there to see the fun!

First they came up with various personal and domestic robots that are geared towards helping people in their everyday chores. This way, they could concentrate more on living their lives and not be tied down with their chores. Even though they cost a couple hundreds of dollars, it’s really worth it. The most expensive one in the robot toys toy lot at RobotShop is the Joinmax Robot Dog which retails for CAD $499.99. But if you want to stick with something more traditional but is not as expensive as Joinmax robot dog, there is actually Wow Wee RoboPet Robot Toy which retails for only CAD $99.99, however based on looks and skills alone, this is not as great as the Joinmax robot dog. The newest version of the RoboSapien series is Wow Wee RoboSapien V2 Robot Toy wherein RobotShop Inc. has clearly pulled the stops when it comes to providing this highly interactive and almost lifelike toy robot. Not only is it capable of free roaming, it can very well understand what you’re talking about as it can hear as well as speak. Answering Machines: Whatever Happened To Them ?

Posted on August 31, 2008
By tech blogger in Uncategorized

I remember back when the answering machine was a relatively new invention. My parents thought that it was the most amazing contraption that they had seen in years. Our answering machine was large and it had a large cassette tape in it that recorded incoming messages and another large cassette tape that played the outgoing messages. We had a lot of fun creating new and interesting greetings for callers on our answering machine.

Many of the answering machine greetings were annoying and some were very funny. We recorded songs, we took turns creating messages and we always kept things new. One of the more annoying answering machine greetings was the well-known, “Hello…Hello. I can’t hear you…Can you speak up? I still can’t hear you…Anyway, we’re not home. Leave a message on the answering machine after the beep.” Many callers were extremely irritated with the message and often hung up on the answering machine.

Today, you can find new ways to annoy and amuse your callers through your answering machine, especially on your cell phone. There is a site called The Answering Machine that offers message downloads for your cell phone. You can choose from three hundred different greetings. The Answering Machine also offers many other treats for your cell phone as well.

The Answering Machine has a list of the top ring tones for your cell phone. One list provides the classic downloads for your cell phone answering system like the theme from the Exorcist and Mission Impossible and from popular music like Hey Jude and You Spin Me Round. Whatever your taste, you can find a great ring tone for your cell phone through The Answering Machine.

The site also provides a choice of co lour logos for your cell phone. The pictures range from cartoons to photographs to artwork. If you prefer a little movement, The Answering Machine offers animated logos for your cell phone. Many of these logos are downright funny and some are just plain scary. Many of the animated logos are appropriate for cell phone users of all ages but some are adult.

I am going to spend a little time looking around The Answering Machine’s website to find a great logo, some animated pictures and maybe a cool new ring tone. But what I’m really looking forward to finding is a great message for my cell phone. Over the years, I have run low on new and creative ideas. I figure that I can put my creative efforts elsewhere and rely on The Answering Machine website for free downloads that are guaranteed to amuse.
